First of promised STO fuel skids opens in Dhuvaafaru

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has inaugurated a State Trading Organization (STO) fuel skid in R. Dhuvaafaru – the first of the fuel skids his administration plans on establishing across the Maldives in order to improve access to fuel at the base rate for fishermen.

Providing fishermen with access to fuel at the base rate is a key pledge President Muizzu made to fishermen.

The fuel skid in Dhuvaafaru was inaugurated by President Muizzu on Saturday morning during his one-day visit to the island to attend Fishermen’s Day festivities.

STO has been tasked with establishing 18 fuel skids in locations across the country. The company has said they expect to finish the task by March next year.

This year’s Fishermen’s Day was marred by a protest by yellowfin fishermen frustrated over the delay in the fulfillment of government pledges to them.
