Veteran Maldivian actor and director Ahmed Nimal has passed away on Thursday.
Nimal was taken to ADK Hospital on the evening on the last day of last year following a stroke. He was later transferred to Dharumavantha Hospital.
Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) confirmed to Sun that Nimal passed away at 6:50am this morning.
He was 62-years-old at the time of his death.
Nimal is regarded as one of the most versatile figures in the Maldivian film industry, with a career spanning acting, directing, editing, writing and producing. He has directed several well‑known films, including Zalzala, Valoabi Engeynama, Khalas and others.
He is also widely respected for his acting range, having appeared in numerous lead roles as well as memorable father‑figure characters. Among his notable performances are roles in Veerana, Niuma, Mihashin Furaana Dhaandhen and Neyngi Yaaru Vakivy.
His most celebrated recent performance came in the 2023 hit film Loabi Vevijje.
Nimal’s only son, Mohamed Jumayyil, is also a prominent actor in the Maldivian film industry.
