President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has called for stronger cooperation among Commonwealth countries to enhance climate resilience, secure concessional financing and address debt vulnerabilities in a sustainable manner.

In his message on the occasion of Commonwealth Day, the President said the Commonwealth continues to stand as a powerful example of friendship and solidarity in promoting peace, good governance, sustainable development and international cooperation.

Referring to this year’s theme, “Unlocking Opportunities Together for a Prosperous Commonwealth,” he stressed the importance of collective action to overcome global challenges. The theme, he said, reflects the Commonwealth’s spirit of unity and shared responsibility.

President Muizzu noted that the theme also aligns closely with the Maldives’ national priorities, including strengthening climate adaptation capacity, expanding student and teacher engagement in education, supporting sustainable tourism, advancing digitalisation and ensuring that the benefits of development reach all communities.

He added that this year’s Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) presents an important opportunity to renew partnerships and secure meaningful outcomes for the Commonwealth family, noting that the Maldives will participate actively in these efforts.
