Employees at the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) are grappling with a severe financial crisis as salary disbursements have been delayed for three consecutive months. Despite partial payments made to select departments, a significant portion of the workforce remains unpaid as of March 10, 2026. This ongoing issue follows a pattern of financial instability, evidenced by the company's failure to remit mandatory pension contributions to the Pension Office since October 2024. WAMCO management has previously attributed these lapses to liquidity constraints caused by outstanding invoice payments, leaving staff in a precarious position regarding their compensation and long-term financial security.

  • WAMCO staff have reported three consecutive months of salary delays.
  • The company has failed to deposit pension contributions since October 2024.
  • Management cites cash flow issues and delayed invoice payments as the primary cause.
  • Recent reports confirm that many employees remain unpaid despite localized departmental payouts.

Employees of the state‑owned waste management company WAMCO continue to face delays in receiving their monthly salaries.

A post on X by user Nishana Moosa on March 10 claimed that many WAMCO staff had still not been paid their salaries for the month.

Speaking to Sun on Tuesday, a WAMCO employee said staff have now gone three months without receiving their salaries. He noted that while some departments have recently been paid, many employees remain unpaid.

In January, the Pension Office revealed that three state‑owned companies, including WAMCO, had failed to deposit employees’ pension contributions for more than three months.

At the time, WAMCO said that although pension deductions were made from staff salaries, the company had been unable to deposit the funds due to financial constraints linked to delayed invoice payments.

WAMCO last deposited pension contributions in October 2024, and has not made any payments to the pension fund since.
