An elderly Maldivian national, Ali Ibrahim Didi from G.Dh. Nadella, has passed away while on a religious pilgrimage to Mecca for Umrah. The Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, officially confirmed the news, stating that funeral prayers for the deceased are scheduled to take place at Masjid al-Haram following the Fajr prayer. Mr. Didi had travelled to Saudi Arabia through the Hijaz Company. The death of elderly pilgrims during seasonal religious travel remains a noted occurrence, often linked to health-related complications inherent to such journeys for older individuals.
An elderly Maldivian man who travelled for Umrah this Ramadan has passed away in Mecca.
Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed told the media that the deceased has been identified as Ali Ibrahim Didi, from G.Dh. Nadella.
According to the minister, Ali’s funeral prayer will be held at Masjid al‑Haram after Fajr. No further details have been released.
Ali had travelled for Umrah through Hijaz Company.
Deaths of elderly pilgrims during Umrah and Hajj seasons have been reported in previous years as well, often due to health‑related complications.
