Assault of police officer inside Hiyaa flat: No arrests, action against officer undisclosed

The Maldives Police Service has confirmed that no arrests have been made regarding the recent assault of an off-duty police officer inside a Hiyaa Tower in Hulhumale' Phase II. Video footage from the incident depicts the officer being escorted out of an apartment while suffering from significant head injuries and bleeding. While serious allegations against the officer have appeared on social media, police have not disclosed whether any disciplinary measures are being taken against him. The investigation remains active as authorities work to determine the circumstances surrounding the altercation.

Maldives Police Service, on Sunday, confirmed that no arrests have been made so far in connection with assault of a police officer inside a Hiyaa Tower in Hulhumalé Phase II.

When questioned regarding the latest updates on the case, a Police spokesperson confirmed that no arrests have been made in connection with the incident so far.

Video footage circulating on social media shows the officer being escorted out of a Hiyaa apartment by several police officers while suffering from a severe head injury and heavy bleeding. The footage also shows some members of the public attempting to confront him as he was being taken away.

Several serious allegations concerning the injured officer have also been circulating on social media.

However, the Police declined to disclose whether any disciplinary or legal action has been taken against the officer in relation to those claims.

A Police spokesperson previously confirmed that the officer had received medical treatment at a hospital. It was noted that the officer was not on official duty at the time of the assault.

 

The spokesperson added that police are actively investigating the circumstances of the incident and will take all necessary legal action. Further information will be shared as the investigation progresses.
