The Maradhoo-Feydhoo Magistrate’s Court has ordered the closure of Ummeedhuge, a premise in Addu’s Maradhoo-Feydhoo district, on allegations that it was being used for drug sales and abuse.

The order, issued on Monday, will remain in force for 90 days.

Police said the order was granted under the Narcotics Act, marking the first time the Maradhoo-Feydhoo Magistrate’s Court has issued a closure order against a premise accused of providing drug‑related services.

Under the order, entering or leaving the sealed premises without permission is a criminal offence. The court has warned that the strictest legal action will be taken against anyone who enters such premises unlawfully or damages them in any way.

Police have also arrested a man for violating the order. The suspect has been identified as Ahmed Zahir, 50, of Naujawani, S. Hithadhoo. Police said he was arrested under a court order and has been remanded for seven days.

He was arrested on June 8.

Police thanked the public for their cooperation in efforts to curb drug trafficking in Addu.

Police said they will continue to act under the powers granted by the Narcotics Act, identify more locations used for drug trading and drug services, and close such premises in accordance with the law.
