The Sri Lankan double murder suspect who was extradited from the Maldives on Saturday travelled to three other countries before flying to the island nation, according to Sri Lankan newspapers.
Sihina Dilsara, 23, is believed to have played a key role in a double murder that occurred on February 13 in the Akuregoda area.
The victims, an attorney-at-law and his wife, were shot in front of a supermarket. Police believe Dilsara drove the getaway vehicle used by the gunmen following the attack.
Dilsara had an Interpol red notice out for his arrest, and was detained and extradited from the Maldives on Saturday.
Sri Lankan news outlet, Daily News reported on Monday that Dilsara had fled Sri Lanka on February 17, travelling first to Thailand, then to Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, before returning to Thailand, and then flying out to Maldives.
The newspaper reported that he had previously worked as a steward at a hotel in the Maldives in 2022.
According to Daily News, Dilsara was flagged by Maldivian Immigration due to the active Interpol red notice out for his arrest.
The Maldivian authorities notified Sri Lanka, and a special police team travelled to Male’ and took him into custody and escorted him back to Sri Lanka.
The Maldivian police have yet to issue an official statement regarding the case.
The Daily Mirror, quoting Sri Lankan police, reported that Dilsara has a criminal history and was out on strict bail over previous cases at the time of the double murder. He had been arrested by the Malwathuhiripitiya Police on October 21, 2025 for the unlawful possession of a T-56 assault rifle and later released on strict bail by the Minuwangoda Magistrate's Court. He was also arrested by the Welikada Police on December 15, 2025 for heroin possession and subsequently released on strict bail by the relevant Magistrate's Court.
Sri Lankan police are continuing investigations to determine the suspect's alleged links to the organized criminal network believed to be behind the double murder.
