First Maldivian developmental pediatrician Dr. Fazna passes away

Dr. Aminath Fazna, the first Maldivian doctor to specialize in developmental pediatrics, has passed away at the age of 47. 

Sun has learned Dr. Fazna passed away on Thursday while receiving treatment for cancer in Male’. Her funeral is scheduled to be held at Masjid al-Ta'aawun (Aasaharsa Mosque) after tonight's Isha prayer. 

Dr. Fazna completed her medical education and specialized training at the National University of Malaysia and the University of California in the United States.

After completing her studies, she returned to the Maldives and began serving as a Developmental Pediatrician. Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) announced that she started consulting patients at the hospital in October 2024.

With expertise in child development, Dr. Fazna played a significant role in assessing and diagnosing children with autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and various learning difficulties.

Medical professionals who worked with her, along with the families of the children under her care, are mourning her passing and have expressed profound grief over the loss of Dr. Fazna.
