Four young men have been arrested for allegedly using and dealing drugs in R. Dhuvaafaru.
Police said 22-year-old Maisam Musthafa, 21-year-old Ali Firsad Adam, 21-year-old Ali Hasran and 19-year-old Mohamed Suneyh were arrested in connection with the case.
The arrests were made during a drug operation conducted jointly by Counter Narcotics Intelligence and Dhuvaafaru Police. Officers recovered a bottle containing suspected drugs and equipment used for drug consumption from a cafe on the island under a court order.
The four suspects were taken before court, where Maisam Musthafa was remanded for 15 days. The remaining three were remanded for 10 days.
Dhuvaafaru Police are investigating the case.
Drug abuse remains one of the Maldives’ most serious social issues, with enforcement agencies noting increasing involvement of youth and children in such cases.
