President: All MDP administrations pushed a ‘pro-Israel’ foreign policy

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu alleged on Sunday that while his administration’s foreign policy is rooted in maintaining close relations with all countries except for Israel, the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) had implemented a pro-Israel policy every time it came to power.

He made the remark during a ceremony held on Sunday morning to mark the Maldives’ 61st Independence Day.

In his address, President Muizzu said that his administration’s has been successfully maintaining diplomatic relations will all its bilateral partners under its ‘Maldives first’ policy.

President Muizzu said that there’s no possibility that Maldives will establish diplomatic relations with Israel, which continues to kill Palestinian people.

He said that the ban on Israeli passports will remain in place.

President Muizzu said that different Maldivian administrations had adopted different foreign policies through the years.

He alleged that the MDP had adopted a pro-Israeli policy the two times it came to power.

“MDP implemented a pro-Israeli foreign policy every time it governed this country,” he said.

He also alleged that the Maldives had turned away from Arab Muslim countries during MDP administrations.

President Muizzu said that the Maldives was the land of the Maldivian people, and that the country should always put its own interests first.
