Several areas of Male’ City have been flooded due to swelling waves that washed over parts of the capital. The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has begun drainage operations to clear the accumulated seawater.
In a post on X, the MNDF said its teams are working to remove the floodwater, with efforts currently focused on the Carnival area.
Photos and videos circulating on social media show flooding in the newly paved section of the road.
According to the Maldives Meteorological Service, rain is expected in various parts of the country until 18:00 on Sunday.

The Met Office has also forecast wet weather throughout the ongoing school holidays, advising the public to remain cautious while travelling.
