K-Park victims sue HDC demanding long overdue justice

Victims of the K-Park housing scandal has filed a lawsuit against Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and Economic Ministry, demanding justice in one of the worst housing fraud cases in the country’s history.

The K-Park Residences in Hulhumale’ was launched by Hanbo in November 2016. But the condominium has remained unfinished, with the project embroiled in scandal, and its minority shareholder convicted of defrauding dozens of people who paid booking fees for apartments at the K-Park Residences.

Hassan Falah, an attorney from the law firm Advocacy Chambers, confirmed to Sun on Sunday that they have filed a suit with the Civil Court on behalf of the victims.

He said that a speedy solution by the state remains the victims’ biggest hope.

The law firm has accused the HDC of failing to cooperate in efforts to resolve the issue, resulting in lack of progress in any of the cases lodged by the victims.

The firm said that victims they represent tried but failed to meet the original developer, which has “ceased to exist.”

The K-Park Residences was originally promoted as one run by a South Korean developer. But it later emerged that the project was riddled with fraud.

It was Hanbo and Housing Development Corporation (HDC) that reported the allegations of fraud to the police in 2023, naming Hanbo’s then-minority shareholder Hassan Mamdhooh (Manday) as the prime suspect in the case.

Manday and his associate Jaishan Saeed were tried for over 200 charges, collectively, for defrauding over 50 people.

In December 2025, Manday received a lengthy sentence of 397 years in prison, while Jaishan received 159 years.
