The 20th edition of the Maldives’ biggest hospitality expo, Hotel Asia Maldives 2026 kicked off Sunday, with the International Culinary Challenge.
Of the two key events of the expo, the Culinary Challenge kicked off on Sunday at the Maldives National University (MNU) in Male’ and the Synthetic Track in Hulhumale’, while the Hotel Asia Exhibition kicked off on Monday at the Synthetic Track.
The expo will run through Wednesday.
Organized by Maldives Exhibition & Conference Services, the Hotel Asia Maldives is one of the Maldives’ most established platforms for the hospitality, resort-supply and culinary sectors.
Hotel Asia began in 2000 as an exhibition-only event, launched with the participation of approximately 40 companies.
At the time, the Maldivian tourism and resort industry depended heavily on overseas suppliers, with an estimated 80 percent of goods required by hotels and resorts sourced by visiting exhibitions outside the country.
Hotel Asia was created to bring suppliers, hotel operators and industry professionals together in one place, helping businesses access essential products, services and new hospitality solutions more efficiently.
In its early years, Hotel Asia was held biennially.
However, as the Maldives’ tourism sector expanded and demand from hospitality businesses, suppliers and international brands increased, the event developed rapidly. By 2008, the exhibition had transitioned into an annual event to meet the growing needs of the industry.
Over the years, Hotel Asia Maldives has played an important role in strengthening links between international suppliers and the local hospitality sector. The exhibition has enabled resorts, hotels, guest houses, liveaboards, restaurants and catering businesses to explore new equipment, food-and-beverage products, kitchen technologies, guest amenities and operational services. This long-term industry engagement has contributed to reducing reliance on overseas sourcing from approximately 80 percent in the early years to around 20 percent today.
Hotel Asia’s development reflects the transformation of the Maldives into a globally recognized tourism destination. From an exhibition with 40 participating companies, it has evolved into a respected annual meeting point for suppliers, resort operators, buyers, chefs, hospitality leaders and industry stakeholders.
Today, it continues to support commercial partnerships, professional development and innovation across the hotel, resort, restaurant, catering and tourism industries.
