Maldives joins global movement to end violence against children

The Maldives signed the Bogota Call to Action on Tuesday, joining a global movement to end violence against children.

The Bogota Call to Action is the landmark political outcome document established at the first Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children held in Bogotá, Colombia, in November 2024.

Maldivian Health Minister Geela Ali signed the declaration on Tuesday.

The move was described by the Maldives government as one that reaffirms the country’s resolve to protect every child from violence and build a future where every child can grow up safe, supported and empowered.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Geela stressed the need for sustainable efforts to achieve meaningful success in ending violence against children.

The Bogota Call to Action calls for urgent, coordinated action to strengthen laws and policies, address risks, and secure collaboration to safeguard children’s rights and wellbeing. It outlines a commitment to accelerate the implementation of proven solutions.
