Police arrest two Indian nationals with 906 bottles of liquor in Male' operation

Two Indian nationals have been arrested for producing and selling liquor in Male' City.

Police said the arrests were made in a joint operation conducted by the Drug Enforcement Department and Counter Narcotics Intelligence last Saturday. Officers stopped the suspects on the streets of the city and searched their motorcycle and a residence linked to them.

According to police, 906 bottles of suspected liquor (500 ml each), 16 buckets of suspected liquor and a large amount of cash were recovered from the suspects. The motorcycle they were riding at the time was also towed.

The suspects have been identified as Praveen Senthilkumar, 30, and Kannan Irlappan, 23.

Police said that after completing the necessary procedures, both men have been handed over to Maldives Immigration for action under the Immigration Act. The case is under further investigation.

Authorities have noted a recent increase in cases involving foreigners in the possession, production and trafficking of drugs and alcohol in the Maldives.
