Brothers in serious condition after getting hit by dangerously driven three-person motorbike

The family of two individuals involved in a dangerous collision between motorcycles in Hulhumalé early Wednesday morning has called for a thorough police investigation to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

The accident occurred in Hulhumalé Phase II when a motorcycle carrying three people collided with another motorcycle carrying two individuals.

According to the Police, the accident between two motorcycles on Nirolhu Magu in Hulhumalé Phase II was reported at approximately 2:55am on Wednesday morning. Five individuals sustained injuries of varying severity in the collision and are currently undergoing medical treatment.

One of the motorcycles involved in the accident in Hulhumalé was carrying three individuals with the said motorcycle, crashing into another, carrying two individuals.

In a later statement, the Police said that the motorcycle carrying the three individuals was being driven against the flow of traffic on a one-way road.  The Police also confirmed that the person driving the motorcycle did not hold a valid license for the relevant category of vehicle.

The Police further noted that four of the five individuals injured in the collision remain in serious condition. All five of them were initially treated at Hulhumalé Hospital before being transferred to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for further medical treatment.

In a social media post, a sibling of the two individuals traveling on the second motorcycle expressed concern over reports that police may be treating the incident as a routine traffic accident. The family said this was difficult to accept given the critical condition of their relatives.

" What is especially painful for us is that my brothers were riding safely, and according to what we know, the accident happened because of the actions of the three people on the other motorcycle. Yet my brothers are now seriously injured and fighting for their health," the post stated.

The family called on police to conduct a comprehensive investigation and urged that those found responsible be held accountable for their actions.

The post concluded by asking the public to remember the two injured individuals in their prayers.
