A woman arrested with a large quantity of drugs has been remanded in custody for 15 days while she remains admitted at the hospital.
The Criminal Court extended the remand of the 44-year-old woman from S. Hithadhoo, who is under investigation for drug use and possession. According to the remand order issued on Sunday, the hearing was conducted in her absence due to her hospitalization. The court noted that police had arrested her in accordance with legal procedures.
Police told the court that officers recovered a large amount of drugs from her possession. The court order also states that she has a prior criminal record.
The judge ruled that she must remain in custody on the grounds that there is sufficient evidence against her and that releasing her may pose a threat to community safety.
The Criminal Court instructed that she be brought before a judge within 24 hours of her discharge from the hospital. Her 15-day remand is set to expire on November 2.
