Civil Court Judge Abdulla Ihsan: JSC's Investigation Committee has unanimously approved to recomment Ihsan's dismissal to the Parliament.
The investigation committee of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to recommend to the Parliament that Civil Court Judge Abdulla Ihsan be dismissed from office following an inquiry into a disciplinary case.
Sun has learned that the decision to seek his removal was finalized at a meeting of the JSC investigation committee held on October 12th.
The committee unanimously concluded that Judge Ihsan’s conduct violated Article 40-5 (a) and Article 40-5 (b), subsections 1, 2, 3 and 4, of the Judges Act of the Maldives. Accordingly, under Article 32-1 (a)(4) of the Judicial Service Commission Act, the committee decided to recommend his removal as a Civil Court judge to the Parliament.
Although rumors have circulated suggesting that the case involves allegations of sexual harassment, a reliable source told Sun that the employee concerned had provided statements to the Commission on two separate occasions clarifying that Judge Ihsan had not committed any such act. The employee reportedly stated that no allegation of sexual harassment had been made and that the matter had initially arisen from a misunderstanding.
While the specific details of the JSC’s investigation remain unclear, the inquiry is believed to concern a matter related to the judge’s personal or family life. Reports also indicate an apparent lack of evidence supporting the alleged offence. Neither the individual who raised the concern nor other employees summoned by the Commission reportedly provided testimony substantiating that the alleged incident had occurred.
During Judge Ihsan’s previous suspension, rumors circulated that the action was linked to a court order issued against Lagoons Sports Club. However, the JSC subsequently issued a press release denying those claims.
