The quality of policing services doesn’t depend solely on the size of the police force, says Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed, stressing the importance of discharging duties with compassion and wisdom.
He made the remark on Wednesday at the inauguration of a new police station building in HDh. Kumundhoo.
Addressing the ceremony, CP Ahmed Mohamed said that the police presence in Kumundhoo is expected to increase as more officers join the service.
But he stressed that the quality of policing doesn’t depend solely on the size of the police force.
“The quality of services provided to the public doesn’t depend solely on the number of police officers. It is far more important to work closely with the people, and to discharge legal duties in line with set policies, and with compassion and wisdom,” he said.
CP Ahmed Mohamed noted that Kumundhoo has a low crime rate, but advised police officers stationed in the island to remain vigilant in the daily operations to maintain the peace and security of the community.
He recalled past challenges in providing policing services in the atolls, with officers forced to secure work space from council buildings and rooms for rent.
He said that the establishment of police stations mark the beginning of a new chapter of full-fledged policing services.
CP Ahmed Mohamed also praised the Kumundhoo Council and the people of Kumundhoo, stating that the sacrifices they made and the cooperation they provided were what made the speedy construction of the police station possible.
He thanked them on behalf of the entire police service.
He also thanked President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration for its initiative to develop police infrastructure and establish modern police stations in all islands, as well as Home Minister Ali Ihusan himself for his close oversight of daily police needs.
Concluding his speech, CP Ahmed Mohamed urged police officers in Kumundhoo to work closely with the council and the local community in setting annual goals and shaping policing, and to remain resolute in providing the quality of services that the community needs.
