The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has arranged temporary housing for four residents following a fire in a Hiyaa apartment on Tuesday that left the kitchen unusable.
The NDMA stated that the fire occurred in an apartment on the 23rd floor of a Hiyaa tower. The incident caused severe damage to the kitchen, rendering it completely unusable.
Photographs released by the authority show two burnt pots on the stove, with the flames reaching the overhead cabinets and leaving extensive smoke stains on the walls.
The NDMA said temporary accommodation for one day and food supplies for five days had been arranged for the four residents due to smoke inside the apartment.
The authority confirmed that no one was injured in the incident.
Fire incidents are reported occasionally. Recently, a house in Faresmaathodaa was damaged beyond repair in a fire. Following that incident, the island council provided financial assistance and temporary housing for the five occupants.
