A baby born prematurely at just 25 weeks (about 5 months) of pregnancy has been discharged home after spending 90 consecutive days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Hulhumale' Hospital.
The newborn has made a full recovery following three months of specialised care, marking a major milestone in the hospital’s neonatal services.
Premature babies face severe and often life-threatening complications, and the infant received continuous, round-the-clock care from specialist doctors and nurses throughout the 90-day period. The hospital described the moment of discharge as one of “great joy and satisfaction” for both the medical team and the baby’s family, noting that the child’s steady improvement was the result of dedicated teamwork and compassionate care.

Hulhumale' Hospital highlighted the treatment journey as one defined by hope, resilience and professional commitment, a significant achievement for a government hospital, where such high-risk neonatal cases are less commonly publicised compared to private facilities.
The NICU at Hulhumale' Hospital provides 24-hour specialised care for newborns requiring intensive support. Services include ventilator treatment, CPAP machines and specialised incubators designed to maintain the body temperature of premature infants.
