The Greater Male’ Connectivity Project (GMCP), widely known as the ‘Thilamale’ Bridge Project’, is the largest infrastructure development project in Maldivian history.
Financed through a USD 500 million package from India comprising grants and a Line of Credit, the project aims to connect Male’, Vilimale’, Gulhifalhu and Thilafushi through a 6.74-kilometre network of bridges and causeways.
Superstructure work on the Male’-Vilimale’ section of the project was completed last August.
Following the milestone, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu expressed hope that the Thilamale’ Bridge, linking Male’, Vilimale’, Thilafushi and Gulhifalhu, would be fully completed within approximately one year.
