The no-confidence motion against Economic and Transport Minister Mohamed Saeed has been placed on the agenda for Wednesday’s sitting of the People’s Majlis.

The motion was submitted by 13 lawmakers from the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), who accuse Saeed of failing to fulfil his constitutional responsibilities as a cabinet minister and of not being accountable to Parliament. The MPs said Saeed had repeatedly avoided providing adequate answers to the legislature and had engaged in conduct prohibited for ministers.

The motion, filed last week, alleges that Saeed neglected key duties, including oversight of state assets, economic reform responsibilities, and obligations to respond to parliamentary inquiries. It also claims he failed to address concerns raised by lawmakers regarding major economic issues.

With the matter now formally scheduled for Wednesday’s sitting, Parliament is expected to proceed with debate and voting as outlined in its rules.
