Traffic accidents in the Male' area increased during the first week of Ramadan compared to the same period last year, according to figures released by Maldives Police Service on Tuesday.
Police recorded 107 accidents between February 18–24, the first week of Ramadan this year. In the corresponding week last year, 90 accidents were reported.
The highest number of accidents this year occurred on Majeedhee Magu, where 14 accidents were recorded, followed closely by Sinamale' Bridge and Highway with 17 accidents. These remain among the busiest and most congested routes in the capital.

Accidents on Ameenee Magu totalled 8, while Hulhumale' Phase I saw 14 accidents. Another 16 accidents were reported in Hulhumale' Phase II, with 9 incidents classified under other locations.
The lowest number of cases were reported near the Local Market area, where only 2 accidents occurred during the period.
Police have urged motorists to slow down, stay attentive, and exercise patience on the roads throughout Ramadan to prevent further incidents.
