MTCC awarded MVR 174 million project to reclaim land and protect Madaveli’s shoreline

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been awarded the second phase of the GDh. Madaveli land reclamation and shore protection project, valued at MVR 174 million.

The agreement was signed by Housing Minister Dr. Abdulla Muththalib and MTCC Managing Director Ahmed Saudee.

According to MTCC, the project includes dredging 19.17 hectares of land and implementing coastal protection measures. The scope also covers the construction of 1,645 meters of revetment and 120 meters of groynes.

The project is scheduled to be completed within 400 days.

Madaveli, home to more than 2,000 people, has long faced housing shortages. The land reclamation component is expected to expand the island’s land area and ease housing pressures. MTCC also stated that the shore protection works will help address recurring flooding and erosion issues on the island.
