The government has launched a targeted housing initiative, creating a specialized application category for people with disabilities under its broader family housing scheme. Out of 7,900 upcoming flats in the Greater Male' area, 100 units are exclusively reserved for this demographic. The Housing Ministry has released comprehensive guidelines regarding eligibility and point-scoring, ensuring that both residents of Male' and those living in outer islands who require medical support or face financial hardships can apply. This structured approach aims to provide equitable access to essential housing services for vulnerable citizens.
A separate category has been introduced for people with disabilities to apply for flats under the government’s family housing scheme.
The government has announced that 7,900 flats will be allocated in the Greater Male' area, of which 100 flats are reserved specifically for people with disabilities.
The Housing Ministry has now created a dedicated application category for this group. Application forms, eligibility criteria, point‑scoring guidelines, and instructions on how to apply have been published.
Under this category, individuals with disabilities may apply even if they do not currently reside in Male', provided they are unable to access necessary treatment in their home island or if their family’s financial situation prevents them from living in Male'. Residents of Male' who have received treatment within the past year are also eligible to apply.
Applications for the disability category will open on 24 March and will close on 30 April. All submissions must be made through the Housing Portal.
