Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has officially appointed Ibrahim Ziyath as its new Deputy CEO and Board Member. Ziyath, who previously held the position of CEO at the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) during the presidency of Abdulla Yameen, brings significant executive experience to the port authority. However, this transition has drawn attention to his past, specifically regarding pending corruption allegations. In 2021, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) formally requested the Prosecutor General's Office to pursue charges against Ziyath related to the recruitment of foreign workers during his tenure at MTCC. The appointment marks a notable return to public sector leadership.

  • Ibrahim Ziyath appointed as Deputy CEO and Board Member of Maldives Ports Limited.
  • Ziyath previously served as the CEO of the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company under the Abdulla Yameen administration.
  • The appointment follows a history of corruption allegations concerning the recruitment of foreign workers at MTCC.
  • In October 2021, the Anti-Corruption Commission recommended that the Prosecutor General's Office pursue criminal charges against him.
  • The move highlights the intersection of political appointments and historical legal scrutiny in Maldives state-owned enterprises.

Former Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) CEO Ibrahim Ziyath has been appointed as the Deputy CEO of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL).

MPL announced his appointment on Monday, welcoming him to the company’s senior management team.

Ziyath previously served as MTCC’s CEO during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. He is also the brother of former Auditor General Hassan Ziyath and former MMPRC Managing Director Abdulla Ziyath.

Ziyath has faced past corruption allegations linked to the recruitment of foreign workers for MTCC projects. In October 2021, the Anti‑Corruption Commission (ACC) forwarded a case to the Prosecutor General’s Office seeking charges against him in relation to the matter.
