A total of 352 youths selected for the third batch of the Maldives National Service departed for training on Monday.

In a post on X, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu said 1,785 youths applied for the second opportunity to join the national service programme. The first group of 352 participants from the third batch has now travelled to Maafilaafushi in Lhaviyani Atoll, where the MNDF is conducting the training.

According to the President, the three‑month programme will train participants in nationalism, responsible citizenship, religious values, morals and ethics, as well as leadership, fitness and lifestyle skills required for national service. He described sustaining the patriotic service programme as one of the government’s most important youth‑development policies.

The batch includes 64 girls and 288 boys from 115 islands.

Youths aged 16 to 28 are eligible to participate in the programme.

A total of 350 students took part in the first batch of national service training, of whom 346 graduated last December. From the second batch, 344 students graduated last May.

The national patriotic service programme is a special initiative of President Muizzu. The government says the programme aims to build a strong young generation through structured training and education.
