Bangkok Airways, which operates direct flights between Thailand and the Maldives, has suspended its flights for the year.

The decision was revealed by Inner Maldives President Mohamed Firaq.

In a post on X, Firaq said Bangkok Airways had suspended operations to the Maldives. He described the airline as an important partner, noting that it brings more than 2,000 tourists to the country each month.

He said the hope is for flights to resume by next summer.

Firaq also confirmed to Sun that Bangkok Airways will not operate flights to the Maldives this year.

However, he believes the situation could change with stronger promotional efforts.

“For example, if you plan for days when expenses are not covered through a discount scheme, you can sustain it. But you are losing a lot,” he said.

Bangkok Airways has not yet issued an official announcement regarding the suspension.

Last May, Air India suspended flights between New Delhi and Male' until August.
