The Rasfannu swimming area in Malé was reopened to the public on Friday morning following the completion of extensive renovation and maintenance works.

Infrastructure Ministry confirmed that the area is now open for public use, marking its official reopening since being closed for repairs on April 9th.

The renovations were carried out by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) and involved breakwater re-profiling to improve water circulation within the lagoon, installing an efficient drainage system, and addressing persistent beach erosion.

The Ministry thanked the residents of Malé and the wider public for their cooperation and patience throughout the period of major repair works.

Rasfannu serves as an important recreational space for residents of Malé, offering facilities for swimming and leisure activities. However, there have been recurring water contamination in the area due to poor circulation and the proximity of sewerage infrastructure, often resulting in temporary swimming bans. Additionally, significant erosion had caused damage to beach huts and other public infrastructure in the area.
