Six, including two children, taken to hospital after fire at Hulhumale’ flat

A family of six, including two children, were taken to the hospital on early morning Wednesday, after a fire broke out at a government-issued flat in Hulhumale’ Phase I.

According to the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF), the fire at a ground floor apartment at Flat 141 was reported to the Hulhumale’ Fire Station at around 04:32 am.

The MNDF said that firefighters were immediately deployed to respond to the incident, and managed to put out the fire at around 04:58 am.

According to the MNDF, the fire originated from an electric water kettle in the kitchen.

Six people were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

A police spokesperson told Sun that the people taken to the hospital included two children.

The spokesperson said that all six were in stable condition.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) states that they were working on providing humanitarian assistance to the family of six, including providing temporary accommodation.
