Investigation ‘remains ongoing’ into death of policeman during drug operation

The police state that the investigation remains ongoing into the death of a young policeman during an operation at sea last week.

Sub-Inspector of Police Ahmed Asif had been part of the team involved in a mission at sea in the early hours of June 11. He went missing from the ‘Police Launch 57’, and was later found dead underwater.

A police spokesperson told Sun on Wednesday that the investigation into the 33-year-old policeman’s death remained ongoing.

The police but have not disclosed any information regarding the operation he was involved in, or the circumstances of his disappearance.

However, Sun has learnt that he was part of a counter-narcotics operation when he disappeared.

Asif was posthumously promoted from the rank of Senior Sergeant to Sub-Inspector of Police, in recognition of his loyalty and dedication.
