The Interpol has issued a red notice for a Maldivian man wanted by local authorities in a case involving the sexual abuse of a child.
In a statement on Tuesday, the police stated that Izyan Abdul Hameed, 38, Raahi, F. Nilandhoo, had fled the country after the case against him was reported to the agency.
His current whereabouts are unknown, said the police.
The police stated that the Interpol has now issued a red notice at their request, to locate and provisionally arrest him, pending extradition to the Maldives.
However, the police did not state when the case was reported to the agency, or any other details regarding the case.
The latest statistics released by the Health Ministry shows 81 cases involving child victims were reported to the authorities in May, including 25 cases involving sexual abuse.
