Chief Justice Abdul Ghanee Mohamed has arrived in Addu City to assess the current state of the courts in the city.

He is accompanied by Supreme Court Justices Hussain Shaheed and Abdullah Hameed, along with Acting Chief Judicial Administrator Mohamed Shuja.

The Chief Justice visited the Addu courts on Thursday and met with court staff. He also inspected the site of the Addu Court Complex, which is currently under construction. The project was awarded in 2023 with a one‑year completion target.

Chief Justice Abdul Ghanee has formed a special task force to address the backlog of cases in Addu. There are 13,032 cases nationwide that have remained pending for more than a year.

He stated in February that expediting justice in these cases remains the judiciary’s top priority.

“Our goal is to ensure that by the end of 2026, the judiciary in Maldives is a robust and accountable judiciary free from delayed cases or backlog without justice,” he said.
