Ibrahim Nazeem.
Ibrahim Nazeem was appointed as a state minister at the Sports Ministry on Thursday, a day after he was dismissed from his role as the managing director of Road Development Corporation (RDC).
Nazeem’s dismissal on Wednesday is linked to the decision announced by President Dr. Mohmed Muizzu on September 7 to merge RDC into Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) – a move he said was part of his administration’s cost cutting measures.
MTCC’s managing director Ahmed Saudee has been appointed as RDC’s acting head.
Nazeem had served at the Youth and Sports Ministry back during former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s administration, spending 17 years in various positions at the ministry.
He also serves as vice president of Victory, one of the biggest sport clubs in the country. Nazeem also made history by becoming the South Asia region’s first international beach volleyball referee. He completed the referee course in 1996, and went on to officiate the World Tour.
Nazeem has also served as a state minister at the Construction Ministry, and as a deputy minister at the Housing Ministry.
