A fire breaks out at a home in GDh. Faresmaathoda on October 19, 2026.
A large fire broke out at a private residence in GDh. Faresmaathoda on Monday early morning, displacing a family of five.
According to police, the fire was reported to the agency at around 04:15 am, and was put out through the joint effort of the police, fire and rescue service and the local council.
The fire resulted in minor injuries to one of the residents.
“The incident resulted in slight injuries to one person. However, no one sustained any serious injuries,” said a police spokesperson.
According to the police, preliminary investigative findings indicate the incident resulted from a fire in the air conditioning system in one of the bedrooms.
The fire is under further investigation by the police.
Faresmaathoda Council president Mohamed Sabah told Sun that the fire caused extensive damage, rendering the house uninhabitable.
The family of five living in the house have been moved to a temporary shelter.
According to Sabah, one of the residents sustained minor burn injuries when the ceiling partially collapsed as they rushed out of the house to escape the fire.
Another resident, a child, suffered from smoke inhalation.
“The house is completely burnt to ashes. The walls may be standing upright but are collapsing to the touch. Therefore, the council is preparing for a cleanup at the family’s request,” said Sabah.
He said the authorities have arranged accommodation for the displaced family, and will also be providing them with financial support.
