Applications have opened for the Chinese Government Scholarship, offering international students the opportunity to pursue higher education in China.
According to an announcement by Chinese Embassy in the Maldives, applications are now open for the 2027/2028 academic year. Further information about the scholarship is available through the designated website, under the "Chinese Government Scholarship Information System for International Students" tab. The Embassy stated that all required application documents must be submitted online through the portal.
The announcement states that applicants seeking admission to undergraduate programmes must complete the China Scholastic Competence Assessment. The assessment results must be included as part of the formal application.
Regarding the assessment schedule, the Embassy clarified that students planning to begin their studies in September next year must sit the assessment in November or December this year, or January next year.
Applicants applying for programmes taught in Chinese must also demonstrate proficiency in the language. However, this requirement does not apply to students taking Chinese as a core module or those who have previously completed a degree programme taught in Chinese.
The Chinese Embassy in the Maldives will review and process online applications submitted by Maldivian students.
Full details of the eligibility criteria and application requirements are available in the document attached to the Embassy’s official announcement.
