Power has been restored to the parts of Male’ City and Hulhumale’ affected by an outage that lasted nearly one hour.
State Electric Company (STELCO) had confirmed the power outage at 01:12 pm Tuesday, attributing it to a “technical issue” without elaborating.
The company said it was working on identifying the issue and resolving it as soon as possible.
STELCO announced the restoration of power to Male’ City at 01:41 pm, and the full restoration of power to all affected areas, including in Hulhumale’, at 02:06 pm.
However, the company did not disclose any details regarding the cause of the near-one hour outage.
The utility service asked any customer still facing power disruptions to call the company’s call center at 1545.
“We apologize for the inconvenience this caused our customers,” said the company.

The Maldivian capital, home to some 200,000 people, has been affected by frequent power outages in recent years. Many of the recent outages have been mostly attributed to damage to cables, with STELCO working quickly to fix the issues and restore power.
However, a total blackout in the capital on June 1, 2025 left tens of thousands of people who live there without power for nearly six hours.
Following an increase in power outages due to damage to its cables, STELCO announced in September that it has decided to seek compensation to cover repair works on electricity cables damaged due to negligence in conducting road works.
The company has also stated that it was working on boosting electricity supply to meet the growing demand in the populous capital.
