The Emirates Red Crescent has donated MVR 626,795 as Fitr Zakat to the Ministry of Social and Family Development to support children under state care.

The Islamic Ministry said Sunday that the donation, equivalent to USD 40,780.44, was handed over to be spent on orphans, children with special needs, and other vulnerable groups supported by the state.

According to the ministry, the funds will be used to provide Eid celebrations for children in state care, including Eid clothing, food packages and Ramadan meals.

The donation was made as part of the Emirates Red Crescent’s annual Zakat programme, which supports social welfare initiatives in partner countries. The Islamic Ministry noted that the contribution reflects the close and longstanding ties between the Maldives and the United Arab Emirates.
