A fire broke out at a warehouse in Huvafenee Goalhi, Male' City, prompting an emergency response from the Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF). While responders successfully contained the blaze within approximately one hour, a female police officer sustained smoke inhalation injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment. Although the specific cause of the fire remains under investigation by authorities, the incident highlights ongoing safety concerns following a string of recent fire-related emergencies in the country, including a fatal incident in ADh. A police officer who attended to the fire at a warehouse located near the Galolhu Mortuary in Male’ City is being treated for smoke inhalation.
The Police identified the officer who suffered from smoke inhalation as a female officer who is currently being treated in the hospital.
Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) said the fire at a warehouse in Huvafenee Goalhi broke out at approximately 10:57am this morning and was brought under control almost an hour later, at approximately 11:52pm.
Photos and videos on social media platforms show a building on the narrow road ablaze with a huge fire, as thick black smoke rises up.
It also shows firefighters battling the blaze.
MNDF has not disclosed any further details regarding the incident, including the cause of the fire.
This latest fire comes less than a week after one at an accommodation block in ADh. Dhigurah killed five Bangladeshi workers, and left two more seriously injured.
A more recent fire broke out in a home in Hulhumale’ on Tuesday night, temporarily displacing seven people.
