The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has forecast adverse weather conditions nationwide, with widespread rainfall and rough seas expected in several regions.
According to MET Office, showers are likely throughout the Maldives, with some islands expected to experience periods of heavy rainfall.
Winds in the southern atolls will blow from the south and southwest at speeds of between five and 15 miles per hour. Elsewhere in the country, winds will blow from southwest and west at 10 to 20 miles per hour, with gusts reaching up to 35 miles per hour during showers.
Sea conditions are forecast to be moderately rough in the northern and central atolls, where wave heights are expected to range from three to six feet. In contrast, seas in the southern atolls are anticipated to remain relatively calm.
Notably, a white alert has been issued for Lhaviyani Atoll to Alifu Dhaalu Atoll and will remain in effect until 18:00pm, warning of heavy rain.
As rough seas and adverse weather persist, authorities have advised seafarers to exercise caution and remain alert while travelling. Members of the public are also encouraged to monitor official weather updates and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
