Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Kong Xianhua has called on both countries to build on their strong political trust to cultivate skilled youth and lay a new foundation for long-term development that will benefit future generations.

Speaking at the China - Maldives Investment Cooperation Forum, Ambassador Kong said the China - Maldives Friendship Bridge has, over the past eight years, improved the living conditions of Maldivians and contributed significantly to economic growth. He said the two countries should now work together to build a new “symbolic bridge of friendship” that carries their cooperation into the future.

Highlighting the agreements reached during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s state visits to China, the Ambassador said the priorities set by the two heads of state will deepen economic cooperation through enhanced technology transfer, investment, and people-to-people exchanges.

He stressed the importance of developing new-quality productive forces, noting that major progress can be achieved in agriculture, renewable energy, and transportation by harnessing scientific and technological innovation. He added that China is ready to support the Maldives in achieving its 33 percent renewable energy target, including through solar and micro‑grid solutions.

The Ambassador concluded by urging both countries to translate political trust into practical action, especially by investing in youth skills. “Youth talent is at the heart of new-quality productive forces. Through practical projects, we must help young people build their skills and become the next generation of professionals and innovators in the green, blue and digital economies,” he said, adding that this would strengthen the Maldives’ capacity for independent development.
